--- NEWS ---

After kickball this August, our traveling Ecuador team had an amazing experience watching the community perform a Minga during and implementation phase of a water project.

Minga is a term of community services used since the Inca times. For 100s if not 1000s of years the word and tradition have continued in the Andean communities of Ecuador.

We had over a 100 persons, young and old moving sand, cement, and river stones to prepare for catchment construction.

EWB TRIVIA NIGHT FUNDRAISER

We are excited to host an online fundraiser on Thursday October 1st, 7:00-9:00 P.M. Pacific. This Trivia Night  is in replacement of this year's kickball tournament. We hope to offer kickball next year if conditions allow.

The cost of registration for the online trivia night will be $150 per team. The team size will be limited to 6 computer connections. Please note, there is no person limit per one computer connection, but we will only allow up to 6 computer connections per team. The winning teams will be awarded prizes at the end of the night.

We appreciate your support and invite you to join us on what will be a fun night of cheer and collaboration.

If you would like to donate to the Engineers Without Borders Portland Professionals Chapter outside the event, our project teams would be thankful and most appreciative of your support. The donations page can be found here: Donate Here.

Thanks to our chapter efforts in the last 12 months, the Portland EWB Chapter has opened up 2 active projects and is in the process of creating a third project to launch at the start of 2021.

Ecuador

EWB-Portland got accepted to a new program in October for a water supply project for a community in Ecuador.  The Ecuador team is finishing up paperwork to travel on their first trip in September, although it may get pushed back to January based on the current conditions.  This trip is the first assessment trip where two travel teams will be travelling to the community to gather water quality data, survey the community, and start to develop a relationship with the community members. Learn more here: Chaupiloma, Ecuador

Tanzania

With our chapter growing and the Honduras project nearing the finish line, our Chapter is working on starting another project with a community in Tanzania we have been partnered with since 2012.

Future water supply or agriculture program

As our chapter continues to grow, we are starting a new program for current and future members to join. We have currently pinpointed a final list of possible destinations in Africa or the Americas. More to come on this project as the team develops.

We thank you for your commitment and support during these unprecedented times. We hope you and your families all the best, and are excited for you to join us on Thursday, October 1st.
