WASH Program

Esmeraldas, Ecuador

Four communities in the Esmeraldas Province, on the Northwest Coast of Ecuador, don’t have regular, reliable access to clean drinking water. Our goal is to enhance the quality of life of the residents of the community.

Our approach

The Esmeraldas WASH Program was divided into four sub-programs to represent each community within the program.

We started by implementing Rainwater Collection Systems in the communities of Ostiones and Paufi. Once a clean, sustainable drinking water source was implemented, the focus turned to sanitation and hygiene education.

The Ostiones WASH Sub-Program was done in partnership with Ecuadorian-based NGO, Ecuador Tierra Viva (ETV), and the Portland State University EWB Student Chapter.
