Water Supply Project
Kanembwe, Rwanda
The community of Kanembwe Batwa are requesting technical and funding support to improve access to clean and reliable water for a community of 2,300+ in rural Rwanda.
The Rwanda project team made great strides in 2024. Towards the beginning of the year, our team consulted with a local Rwandan engineer to conduct an engineering feasibility study and preliminary engineering design for a water distribution system for the Kanebwe community. Before moving forward with implementation, the team decided to conduct an in-person assessment trip in September to further develop relationships, collect water quality data and confirm remote assessments. The team found the community to have a much greater population and need for water than previously assessed, resulting in a partnership agreement to be signed with only two of the four villages, Amajyambere and Ngwinurebe, in Kanembwe. The team is now working to alter the preliminary design to reflect the assessment results, while taking steps to fundraise the $70,000 required to complete implementation of the proposed water distribution system. We are happy to take on new members as we have a lot of work to do!
